Your wedding day is one of the most important and memorable days of your life. It’s something that most people plan to do just once, so it’s not surprising that photography is such an important part of it. While you will spot a photographer snapping away at almost every wedding, we bet there are plenty of things that you might not know about them. Here are nine of them.
1. We don’t just turn up, shoot and leave
Communication is key to creating the perfect wedding album. David Lynne Photography really care about making sure that your day is perfectly captured. We want you to be delighted with your photographs, and create images that you will look back on with pleasure for years to come. That’s why we want to get to know you before the big day, to make sure that we not only meet your expectations, but exceed them.
2. Your individuality deserves originality
You are individuals. Your wedding day is unique to you. That’s why we don’t want to copy other photographers’ work. While we’re always happy to hear your ideas and concepts, our ultimate aim is to capture you and your day in all its distinctive glory. During our meetings before your day, we’ll discuss your preferred style and any particular shots you want to include.
3. We take hundreds of photos
You could well be surprised at the number of photos wedding photographers take. Typically, it’ll be between 50 and 100 each hour. That’s because we want to capture all the little moments that reflect the spirit of your day. You’ll probably also notice that we take multiple shots of what seems to be the same scene. As photographers, we know that tiny changes in pose, lighting, and expression can really improve an image.
4. The time we spend working on the day and beyond
On the day, wedding photographers usually arrive while the bride is getting ready, and will stay until after the first dance. That’s often at least eight hours. Plus, as we mentioned above, we take up to 100 images per hour, meaning that we could well have 800 images to process. Even with just light editing, working our way through all of these takes several full days. Then, once you have chosen your favourite shots, we spend more time creating your finished album.
5. Above and beyond
Attend any wedding, and you may well spot the photographer up a tree or lying in a puddle. For us, it’s all about the perfect shot, and we’re prepared to go that extra mile to achieve it, even at the risk of life and limb! It’s all part of the service.
6. Been there, done that
Whatever the location, whatever the weather, whatever the situation, as professional wedding photographers, we’ve probably seen it before. So if things aren’t going quite according to plan, you can be confident that we can handle it.
7. Camera skills aren’t enough
Professional wedding photographers have to have great people skills too. Nerves and anxieties can lead to stress and frayed tempers. And anyone who has ever tried to organise a group of people – especially large ones – knows how difficult it can be to get them to listen and co-operate. Over the years we’ve developed our interpersonal skills to ensure that everyone is where they’re supposed to be, and the day runs smoothly.
8. We need space to work
We know that you have to wait a little while for your professional photos. We get that your guests are excited and want their own photos, and we don’t have a problem with that. But it can cause problems. Often, when we go through the images, we find a beautiful image spoiled by the groom looking off in a different direction at someone else taking a photo. If guests can wait until we’ve finished each shot, it really is appreciated.
9. We want your images to be perfect
That’s why we don’t hand over what are known as RAW images. As wedding photographers, we want your photos to look as good as possible. RAW images are like an unfinished manuscript, lacking finesse and full of rough edges. We want the first time to see your images to be like the first moment you saw each other at the ceremony – emotional and breathtaking. We don’t want the surprise spoiled.
